The Effect of Charyeokhwanbyonbang on Osteoporosis Induced by Ovariectomy in Rats

Abstract
Osteoporosis is a decrease characterized by bone loss and mobidity with osteoporetic fracture is increasing in elderly.
This study was performed to evaluate the effect of CRHB on the bone mass and its related factors, using ovariectomized rat as an estrogen-deficient animal model. The model rats of osteoporosis showed a significant decrease in bone density, bone ash density, calcium content of femur bone.
At. the 7th day after operating ovariectomy, rats were administered with CRHB per orally, and continued for 10 weeks. And osteoporosis related parameters were determined to investigate the effect of CRHB.
The results were summerized as follows:
1. Bone density, bone ash density, bone calcium and magnesium was decreased in osteoporotic rats. CRHB impoved the decreased bone density and related parameters in osteoporotic rats.
2. Osteocalcin in serum was increased in osteoporotic rats. It¢¥s level was decreased when CRHB were administered.
3. ALP activity in serum was increased in osteoporotic rats. CRHB didn¢¥t induce any significant change.
4. Hydroxy-proline excretion in urine were increased in osteoporotic rats. But its level was decresed when CRHB were administered.
5 In serum T-cholesterol density, BDL-cholesterol density, CRHB showed significant increase
6. In serum Cacium level and Phosphoric acid level, CRHB showed significant increase.
7. In histological examination to Hematoxylin-eosin stain, CRHB showed inhibitory effect on the degradation of bone-matrix in osteoporotic rats.
From the above results, it is conclude that CRHB might improve bone density due to inhibition of bone resorption in osteoporotic rats. It suggest that CRHB may be useful prescription in osteoporosis. More study is required.
